Finding and Keeping Sponsors
It can at times get hard when young athletes try to supplement their sports of choice. In most instances, they would need sponsors to enable them to take part in the game or tournament, but there is one big problem. Finding sponsors is not as easy as it seems. As a matter of fact, it is something that can become almost impossible to find a sponsor for the game or the tournament. We can take a young lady named Suzy as an example. From when she was a young girl, her parents sponsored her riding classes, but now she is a first-year student in university, has just turned 18 years old and would like to continue with her passion of riding but she cannot afford it. This is something that is common amongst our people, and that is where finding sponsors comes in. Athletes can benefit from sponsorship, but they need to consider why they need it, who would be best-suited to help make their dreams come true, where to find a good sponsor, and how to approach a potential company or individuals to get sponsorship.
Below are some of the things that an athlete should be, when looking for a sponsor:
- Neatly dressed, clean-cut, and smiling
- Friendly and comfortable around people (such as customers);
- Genuine: sponsors can instantly spot phonies only looking for dollars;
- Have goals and show potential in their particular discipline.
In the event that you’re going after a product sponsorship where you can receive things like saddles, pads, blankets and show clothes, chances are most likely that they will be branded and that means that you will have to wear or use them almost religiously. When people see you using the products over and over, they’ll assume that the quality is excellent and will most likely purchase similar products. This way, you’re promoting the products given to you by your sponsor.
You must also consider the do’s and don’ts that are mentioned below:
Don’t
- Seek out any conflicting sponsors (i.e. if the sponsor provides show riding helmets, do not approach another riding helmet)
- Dive in with your list of demands without thinking about how you can reciprocate to benefit the company.
- Never leave the sponsors alone at an event to fend for themselves. Assign a friend or family member to attend to their needs when too busy.
- Get involved in a scandal, or display any outrageous behavior that could be captured digitally and posted or tweeted (or spread via the old-fashioned grapevine).
Do
- Promote the sponsor at every opportunity
- Maintain high visibility in your field
- Make sure your sponsor is mentioned in every media release
- Keep your sponsors apprised of all your activities, especially successes
- Try to make money on your own to show your sponsor you have a good work ethic and are not relying solely on them
- Establish a relationship with others in the organization besides your key contact, in case they move on
- Make sure they hear it from you first if there is ever any unpleasant news or publicity surrounding you
- Stay professional, it can only boost your status.

We are now going to look at someone that has gone a long way in supporting and sponsoring the equestrian community through his diamond company, Lugano Diamonds, Moti Ferder. Lugano Diamonds were first established in Israel as diamond cutters, and then later under the stewardship of Moti Ferder, the president and design director, they opened their first retail place in Newport Beach, California in 2005. His vast knowledge in the diamond industry led Moti to create one of the most successful brands in their world, and the Lugano Salons are a testament to the very core of the Lugano experience: exceptional, warm, inviting, yet still modern; the atmosphere makes one’s visit memorable. The company controls all facets of jewelry production from stone origin to design and sales which allows Lugano Diamonds to provide the very best quality at a tremendous value.

The company’s unparalleled collection of rings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches, earrings and cufflinks contains timeless, one-of-a-kind designs.
According to Saugerties, New York, December 29, 2014, HITS, Inc. had the pleasure to announce that luxury lifestyle brand Lugano Diamonds had been named the Official Diamond of the 2015 HITS Desert Circuit in Thermal, California and HITS Ocala Winter Circuit in Ocala, Florida. This is because the Moti Ferder has always had a passion for horses, having been raised around them. This is the reason that he is supports many equestrian events throughout the country. He has also created many pieces of equine-themed jewelry.
“It is our pleasure to expand our support and sponsorship of the equestrian community to include HITS Horse Shows,” Ferder had said. “We are honored to be the Official Diamond of the HITS Desert Circuit and the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit. Lugano Diamonds is deeply passionate about all things equestrian, as is evident in our many remarkable horse-themed jewelry pieces.”
The HITS Thermal had an exceptionally successful winter, resulting in the winter destination circuit being expanded to include eight weeks of show jumping, starting January 13, 2015. The expanded show schedule included 18 Grand Prix under the stadium lights, and even included two FEI World Cup qualifiers during DC IV and DC V.
On the East Coast, HITS Ocala Winter Circuit competition at HITS Post Time Farm, was heating up for 10 weeks beginning January 13, 2015. Aside from the weekly Grand Prix and the return of the $50,000 East Meets West Hunter Challenge, season highlights included the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup February 13 and the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix March 23.
Moti is a man that continues to support the equestrian to this day, and that is one of the great things that he is doing and probably one of the reasons that his success continues to rise.
